OFF THE ROAD OF JOKKMOKK

During my time in North Sweden, we decided to make our way to beautiful Swedish Lapland. During that weekend, the famous Sami Winter Market was taking place was taking place in Jokkmokk. It was then the perfect timing to reach the Arctic Circle once again.

We left Umeå on a Friday afternoon to make our way to our Airbnb, located in Vidsel. Just be aware that taking the road to Swedish Lapland means to be very careful, you can encounter very frequently reindeers or mooses especially at night time.

DAY 1 | JOKKMOKK MARKNAD

We left our Airbnb during the morning. We made our way to Jokkmokk to have a look at the beautiful winter market of Lapland. Jokkmokk is the hometown of the Sami culture, an aboriginal population from up North. During that day, we saw a lot of winter activities such as dog sledding, helicopter and reindeers. We ate also the typical suovas sandwich, made with kebab reindeers. The city of Jokkmokk is pretty cute, but not very big.

DAY 2 | STORFORSEN, PITEÅ

We started the day by going to Storforsen naturreservat where they were some beautiful waterfalls to be seen. There are several see points along the river, but we were at the one near Vidsel. It’s really pretty.

Then, we headed back to Umeå stopping by Piteå. Piteå is very well known for its archipelago during spring/ summertime.

Swedish Lapland has a lot to offer. But make sure you do not miss the Sami winter market during your time there. It’s a must-do, to experience the Arctic Circle at the most.

Goodbye beautiful Lapland
